Music, the universal language. No doubt there will long flights, horrendous bus rides and train journeys of endless out of window watching in the months ahead and music will be a necessity. I will have my iPhone loaded and ready to go with my favourites, much of which will be Canadiana of course. I promise at all opportunities to play these loud and proud for fellow travelers whether it be in the train and bus stations, hostels or bars. Here is a sample of what will be my comforts of home:

Matthew Good – Straight out of British Columbia baby! http://www.matthewgood.org

Mother Mother – Another great BC band. This tune will get you revved up during the pre drink, I promise. http://mothermothersite.com/

The Trews – A song called The Travelling Kind? Yes, this is mine and yours theme song. Hailing form Canada’s ocean playground, Nova Scotia. http://www.thetrewsmusic.com/

Matt Mays – This East Coast rocker is one of my favourites, he puts on a hell of a show too. http://www.mattmays.com/

Arkells – Love these guys from Hamilton, ON. http://arkells.ca/

Great Big Sea – It would be a sin not to have Newfoundland and Labrador represented. This one will be busted out at a kitchen party in Chiang Mai maybe http://www.greatbigsea.com/

Hey Rosetta! – Our East Coast is just a hot bed of good tunes. Here is the best XMAS song ever along with a great video with some cool travel stuff http://www.heyrosetta.com/

The Tragically Hip – We call them the Hip, you call them your majesties. You said you don’t give a fuck about hockey? http://www.thehip.com/

Wide Mouth Mason – Awesome band from Saskatchewan. http://www.widemouthmason.com/

Wintersleep – Last but not least. http://wintersleep.com/

As you can see I’ve left out Celine Dion, Shania Twain and Anne Murray. Sorry about that. I hope you enjoy these songs and musicians as much I do. Check them out and buy some of their stuff. As much as I’m looking forward to new sights and foods I’ll also be keeping my ears open for new music.

  1. No problem. Glad you liked some of it!

  2. Some pretty good stuff, thanks for sharing 🙂
